The Chair Crew
I first met Jim at the end of my teens at The Cave in Ottawa. It was my first city job for this country bumpkin and Jim was the first DJ I ever met. I felt so lucky getting to deliver his rum and cokes every Tuesday night and was quickly enamoured by his devilish charm and love of music. He was definitely the one who introduced me to house music and opened me up to the ottawa music scene. He introduced me to so many people who are still some of my best friends today. We remained friends for years as I danced, and bartended my way through my 20’s. We would often meet on the dance floor for his birthday where he would let me give him the biggest birthday bumps, He took those swift kicks to his butt with those quirky facial expressions every year for so many years.. I remember late nights after work we would drive up to Champlain look out listen to mix tapes he hade made, enjoy a sunset and often end at my place for a late night/early morning bacon eating session. But it was 10 years later that we really reconnected over our love of snowboarding at Mont St Marie. Like watching him Dj you could feel his excitement and love of the hill. We would text all summer/ fall but every winter for almost 20 yrs we would meet on the mountain like no time had passed. I was always so pleased we had stayed friends for so long. He never missed a happy birthday, Xmas and Mother’s Day message which would touch my heart and made me feel so appreciated. I valued our friendship and our catch ups. I will remember all those late nights and good times on the ski hill. And every time I ride I will carry a little piece of him in my heart. ❤️
